A exceptional Chinese silver export bowl by renowned maker Wang Hing. The bowl has been beautifully decorated all round with five figural dragons amongst clouds. Wang Hing was known for his exceptional quality silverware, this bowl in particular shows his level of expertise. With five detailed repoussé dragons amongst clouds soldered over a hand raised solid silver footed bowl. ( As a goldsmith and silversmith myself, I can’t emphasize the amount of skill it takes to solder on repoussé work on such a large piece, without the chance of melting it. Take into consideration that the piece dates back to the late 19th century.) Wang Hing made similar size bowls with different motifs, some having been hand pierced between the decoration with a glass liner with in. This was to increase and speed up the manufacturing for export.
