1.19 carat oval old mine cut diamond solitaire ring.
A stylish elegant oval 1.19 carat old mine cut diamond ring. After much thought and research and having the stone available I wanted to create something timeless with meaning. History says that the wishbone is a symbol of luck and dates back to the Roman Empire. It became a tradition after eating a fowl and before discarding the bones to wrap your little finger around the fork shaped bone found in a fowls chest area.It takes two people to pull on each one of the bones that makes up the V shape of the bone, it is pulled till it snaps. Once broken the person that holds the largest piece of the bone is able to make a wish. This tradition is still in existence today, and was especially common in the symbolism in victorian jewellery. Today we refer to the shape as a symbol of luck, considering that you were lucky if you broke the largest piece of the wishbone. So as luck would have it the stone was purchased in a victorian ring that was very worn and in terrible condition. With only two of the eight prong/claws holding the stone in, it was just luck that it hadn’t fallen out and been lost for ever.
