***Some call her the queen of English silversmiths. Hester Bateman was born in 1708, married to a chain maker in 1732 and continued to have six children. She continued to help her husband in his buisness whilst bringing up her children. In 1760 her husband passed away leaving in his Will his tools to his wife. Hester took over the buisness registered her mark in 1761 and began to modernize her workshop, she and her two sons became incredibly competitive making flatware and smaller pieces like the mustard pot competing with english Sheffield plate by pressing out articles in thin sheet silver. She retired in 1790 and passed away on the 16th of September 1794 leaving behind her Buisness to her children.
