Early George III sauce (gravy boat) by Nathaniel Appleton & Ann Smith of London.

Rare collectors piece- Hallmarked 1769 before the official registry of 1771 Hallmark.

Boat shaped with acanthus capped flying scroll handle, ogee border and shell capped scroll legs.

Reference from Peter Cameron book, ” Interesting and unusual silverware from the 17th century to contemporary “.

”The partnership mark with Ann Smith was entered in 1771 but, since pieces have been noted with the mark from at least 1767, a further mark must have been entered prior to that in the lost largeworkers’ register. Ann Smith remains something of a mystery and little has been traced of her life.Her marital status at the time of registering the mark in 1771 was entered as- unknown”

Condition: Excellent.Hallmarks visible with the naked eye even though slightly rubbed.
