Description

Height: 11 cm ( approx 4 ½ inches)

Width: 10 cm.

A circa 1760’s geometric carved pattern coconut cup with un-Hallmarked  sterling silver mounts. A unusual amount of these cups had only the makers mark or no hallmarks at all they are rarely found with a full set of hallmarks.

These cups were first introduced in the 15th and 16th century  but were mounted with three straps of silver from the brim to the feet. They later became popular again in the 1700‘s ( like this one from the 1760’s ) were design‘ed with-out straps. The coconut cup has a un Hallmarked sterling silver shaped scalloped  brim attached with nails. Standing on three shell mounted hoof feet. Beautifully deep geometric carving on the cup itself, old repair to the natural hole of the coconut in the base and a old crack that formed below the rim but the cup itself is stable.( see photos they form part of the description).
